Avery Porter first picked up a tennis racket in 8th grade — not as a player who'd been groomed for the sport since childhood, but as someone who found something she loved and immediately decided to go all in. By 9th grade she was competing, and she hasn't looked back since.

She plays singles and doubles from the right side, and brings to both a defining quality: she's driven entirely from within. Avery sets specific goals at the start of each season and trains with those targets in mind. Her coaches describe her in three words — coachable, dependable, disciplined — and her results back them up.

Defining moment

"At the 2026 Spring District Tournament, I had to switch partners and was paired with a less experienced player on our team. Some of my teammates doubted that we would be successful or even place. Instead of letting those doubts affect us, I created a practice schedule, and we committed to following it consistently. Through hard work, preparation, and teamwork, we exceeded expectations and earned third place at districts. That experience taught me the value of leadership, perseverance, and believing in ourselves, even when others didn't."

That story matters because it's not just about tennis. It's about how Avery responds when the situation is uncomfortable, when others doubt, and when she has to lead rather than be led. Those are exactly the qualities coaches are looking for when they're building a team.

Off the court, Avery is a National Honor Society member, President of the Compassion Club, and co-founder of Hey, Big Sis — a peer mentorship initiative she helped create. She volunteers regularly at the Ronald McDonald House and the Humane Society. She's pursuing a degree in Business and is part of Franklin's Law Magnet Program. She carries a 3.7 weighted GPA and scored 1060 on the SAT.

Avery is targeting D-II and D-III programs and is open to opportunities nationwide. She's already in contact with a few programs and is actively building her recruiting pipeline.
